Biographical info

Name: Michael Stephen Schaadt

Born: 15 March 1954, Long Beach, CA

MSc: 1982, California State University, Long Beach

Major Accomplishments:
Among Mike's professional accomplishments are studies on the ecology of the midwater amphipod Phronima sedentaria; many years of studying the zooplankton assemblage of the San Pedro Channel; various research diving experiences from blue-water diving to living in an underwater habitat; and being part of the team that performed successful in-vitro fertilization on Chrysaora achlyos. These were what he replied when I asked him the question; however, my personal observation is that his major professional accomplishment is in the huge number of young scientists that he has inspired (including me!), and the solid foundation that he has provided in scientific enquiry through his position as Exhibits Director at the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium.

Mike also considers his greatest accomplishment to be the raising of his four children with his wife, Celeste. Mike says, "Sounds corny, but I've always considered that my most important job." No, Mike, doesn't sound corny at all! Good onya.

Honorific taxa:
Several species of Scyphomedusae and Hydromedusae currently in the unpublished stage.
